Mrs. Claire Grant is a media professional with more than three decades of industry experience across Print, Television, Radio and Over the Top Television (OTT) – with hands on delivery of news reporting, copy editing, product editing, subediting, marketing and sales management, general management and strategic leadership.
She was appointed General Manager of Television Jamaica (TVJ) and Television Jamaica Sports Network (TVJ-SN) on September 1, 2012 by RJR Communications Group Managing Director, Mr. Gary Allen.
Mrs. Grant joined the Group on September 14, 2006 as the Marketing and Sales Manager of Television Jamaica. Within a year, the management of Marketing and Sales for Television Jamaica Sports Network (TVJ-SN), a cable brand, was added to her portfolio.
The switch to Marketing and Sales for Mrs. Grant took place after a successful 16 year career in journalism at the Gleaner Company Limited which started on September 3, 1990, She worked as a reporter on the Daily Gleaner desk and the Sunday Gleaner desk. On her return from Master level studies in England she was appointed Editor of the Overseas Publications and her final position was Editor of the Star for 10 years (1996 - 2006).
After three years at the helm of TVJ, in April 2015, the cable brands of Jamaica News Network (JNN) and Reggae Entertainment Television (RETV) were added to Mrs Grant’s General Manager’s portfolio as the Group continued its structural streamlining with the creation of a Television Division by placing all television services under one managerial umbrella. This happened on just before the merger between RJR Communications Group and the Gleaner Company (Media) Limited in 2016. In 2019 additional responsibilities were added to her portfolio with the addition of the Radio Division - Radio Jamaica 94FM, Fame 95FM, Power 106FM, Hitz 92FM and Music 99FM. In 2021 a restructured Multi Media Jamaica Limited was also added to her portfolio.
Mrs Grant is the first female General Manager for Radio Services at the group and the first manager to manage all of the audio visual services – 11 (eleven brands).
Brands that Mrs Grant has managed from the Star to all the audio visual brands she now manages have always registered growth. As GM for Radio and Television, Mrs Grant is now spearheading the transition of the television transmission operations from analogue to digital using the ATSC 3.0 standard which has been mandated by the Jamaican Government.
Mrs. Grant attended St. Jago High School in Spanish Town, St. Catherine. Her tertiary education includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of the West Indies (1990); a Masters in International Journalism from the City University in London; (1994); a Masters in Business Administration with a Marketing Specialization with distinction, from the Mona School of Business (MSB) (2003).
In October 2021 she successfully defended her Doctoral Business Administration thesis at Mona School of Business and Management, Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of the West Indies and awaits the formal award of the degree from the UWI later this year.
The title of her thesis: An Exploration of the Association Between Cultural Context Congruency and Advertising Effectiveness for Television Audiences in a Small Open Emerging Economy
Mrs Grant is a former VP and current executive member of the Media Association of Jamaica and was last year elected as the Vice President of the regional media group the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU)
She lives in Linstead, St. Catherine is married and is the mother of two sons, aged 22 and 16.
